Day 2:Delightful Durham and Beamish
Discover what life was like in the North East in the 1820s, 1900s and 1940s at Beamish, a living working museum set in 300 acres of beautiful Durham countryside. Travel by tram or vintage bus, explore period shops, pubs and eateries, or take a trip on the Pockerley Waggonway.
Later, we call at delightful Durham, a compact city with winding streets that are overlooked by the castle and cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Day 3:Day at leisure or Locomotion Railway Museum
Relax in Redworth Hall’s leisure club with its swimming pool and spa facilities (extra charges may apply, please pay locally), take a stroll around its pleasant grounds, or join our optional excursion to nearby Shildon.
This sleepy part of the world became home of the first steam-hauled passenger railway, the Stockton to Darlington. The superb Locomotion Museum at Shildon charts its fascinating past as the ‘Cradle of the Railways’.

Day 4:Barnard Castle and the Bowes Museum
We travel to the market town of Barnard Castle, where you can browse the antique shops.
We continue to the Bowes Museum which is housed in a gorgeous French-style château. The superb collection includes the beautiful Silver Swan which majestically swoops down to collect the silver fish – a marvellous feat of engineering. We also include a light lunch in one of the museum’s ornate rooms.
